About the Cell

Nerkkoottam is the Anti-Narcotic and Drug Prevention Cell constituted at MTM College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Veliyancode, in accordance with the initiatives of the Government of Kerala and the Higher Education Department to promote a drug-free and healthy campus. The Cell is committed to creating awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol, narcotic drugs, and other addictive substances while fostering a safe and responsible learning environment.

The Cell adopts a proactive approach through awareness programmes, counselling sessions, seminars, campaigns, and student engagement activities to prevent substance abuse among students. It works in collaboration with government departments, law enforcement agencies, health professionals, and the college community to educate students on the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse.

Nerkkoottam also encourages students to become ambassadors of a healthy lifestyle by promoting positive values, peer support, discipline, and responsible decision-making. The Cell strives to ensure that the college campus remains free from the use, possession, or promotion of narcotic substances and other intoxicants.

Mission

To educate, empower, and support students in preventing drug and substance abuse through awareness programmes, counselling, collaboration, and the effective implementation of anti-narcotic initiatives.

Objectives

  • To promote a drug-free and healthy campus environment.
  • To create awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol, narcotic drugs, tobacco, and other addictive substances.
  • To educate students on the legal, social, and health consequences of substance abuse.
  • To organize awareness campaigns, seminars, workshops, and counselling programmes on drug prevention.
  • To encourage healthy lifestyles, positive peer relationships, and responsible behaviour among students.
  • To collaborate with government departments, healthcare professionals, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations for anti-drug initiatives.
  • To identify and provide appropriate guidance and support to students requiring counselling or assistance.
  • To encourage students to actively participate in anti-drug campaigns and community outreach programmes.
  • To ensure strict compliance with Government of Kerala, University, and College regulations relating to substance abuse prevention.
