4-year undergraduate honours programme under the University of Calicut, designed to develop advanced knowledge in English language, literature, communication, and critical thinking.

Program Overview

The programme offers students an in-depth understanding of literary texts and their linguistic, social, cultural, and political dimensions. It encourages learners to explore not only what literature says, but also how and why meanings are created.

Students engage with poetry, drama, fiction, prose, and cultural studies through interactive and participatory classrooms where teachers and students critically dialogue with texts. The course nurtures creativity, analytical ability, language proficiency, and social awareness.

Entry Requirements

Candidates who have successfully completed Higher Secondary / Plus Two or equivalent examination recognized by the University of Calicut are eligible for admission.

Course Outcomes

• Develop strong language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, collocations, and meaning-making devices used in literary texts.
• Identify poetic structures such as symbols, metaphors, imagery, and other literary devices.
• Recognize multiple perspectives within a text and understand the concept of polyphony.
• Read literary and cultural texts critically beyond literal meanings.
• Identify dominant voices, themes, and ideological agendas present in texts.
• Understand marginalized voices such as those of children, women, Dalits, and transgender communities.
• Analyse how subaltern perspectives challenge mainstream narratives and privileged voices.
• Improve communication, writing, presentation, and research skills.
