Profile

The Department of English commenced its academic journey in 2018 with the introduction of the B.A. English Language and Literature programme. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to fostering language proficiency, literary appreciation, critical thinking, and the holistic development of students.

The department provides a learner-friendly academic environment supported by well-equipped classrooms, modern teaching facilities, and a dedicated team of experienced and enthusiastic faculty members. By combining traditional literary studies with contemporary approaches to language and communication, the department equips students with the knowledge, creativity, and confidence required for higher education and diverse career opportunities.

Academic excellence remains the department’s foremost priority. Teaching and learning activities are carried out systematically, ensuring timely completion of the syllabus, continuous assessment, remedial coaching for slow learners, and intensive revision sessions before university examinations. The department also enriches students’ learning experiences through seminars, workshops, literary events, language activities, and career guidance programmes.

The department encourages students to actively participate in cultural programmes, NSS activities, clubs, and leadership initiatives, helping them develop communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. A warm and supportive relationship between faculty and students creates an inclusive academic atmosphere that inspires learning, collaboration, and personal growth.

The Department of English takes pride in nurturing intellectually curious, socially responsible, and professionally competent graduates who are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to society and excel in an increasingly globalized world.

BA English

The students learn literary texts and their unique conventions and contours –the linguistic, the social, the cultural and the political. The course is more of a search for the ‘why” and “how” rather than the “what” of literature. Creative texts are analysed organically in participatory classrooms with teachers
