Profile

Established in 2021, the Department of Sociology at MTM College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Veliyancode, has quickly emerged as a centre for academic excellence and social relevance. Since its inception, the department has been committed to nurturing socially aware, intellectually capable, and responsible graduates who contribute meaningfully to society.

The department currently offers the undergraduate programme B.A. Sociology, designed to equip students with a strong understanding of society, culture, institutions, and human behaviour. The programme addresses contemporary social challenges while preparing students for higher studies, employment, and civic engagement.

The Department of Sociology is supported by a student-friendly academic environment, well-equipped classrooms, and access to modern learning resources. It encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and active participation in academic and co-curricular activities.

A major strength of the department is its dedication to academic quality through innovative teaching methods, continuous evaluation, seminars, field studies, workshops, and interactive learning practices. Faculty members guide students in understanding sociological concepts while connecting theory with real-life social realities.

The department is housed in a dedicated block with rooms totaling 465 sq. ft., accommodating three student batches and the staff room. The classrooms feature ample cross ventilation, comfortable seating, fans, and adequate lighting. The staff room is equipped with appropriate furniture, including individual desks and chairs for each staff member, and storage drawers for personal and official materials. Additionally, there is a provision for a toilet/washroom on the ground floor and a separate wash basin adjacent to the staff room.
